Alexander "Bud" Hirtle

Alexander Edward "Bud" Hirtle - 81, of Mahone Bay, passed away July 23, 2010 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Belmont, Mass., he was a son of the late Alexander W. And Dorothy K. (Mosher) Hirtle.

At the age of six months he came to Mahone Bay and had lived there ever since. He was a member of St. James’ Anglican Church, Mahone Bay. He had worked for many years at Lohnes’ Market and later at Atlantic Bridge and National Sea Products. He was a long time member of Mahone Bay Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years and eight months, Gwen L. (Ernst) Hirtle; two sons, Richard Daryl (Rose) and Paul Edward; sister, Anne (Bill) Kirk, Halifax; brothers, Walter Hirtle, Mahone Bay; Donald (Annette) Hirtle, Upper LaHave.

He was predeceased by sisters, Shirley Ernst, Edith Crouse, Leila Hirtle and brother, Gilbert Hirtle.

There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 27 at Mahone Funeral Home, Mahone Bay, Rev. Bonnie Baird officiating. Burial will be in Park Cemetery, Mahone Bay. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
