Aubrey R. Spidle
1921-2010
Born in Mahone Bay, he was a son of the late Roy and Joy (Hyson) Spidle. He was a veteran of the Second World War. He served with the Cape Breton Highlanders and the First Special Service Force, serving in Canada, England, Italy, France, Holland, Belgium and Germany. He was wounded in action in 1944 in France. On November 26, 2007, he was awarded The Bronze Star from the United States Government for his service with the US-Canadian Special Forces unit, commonly called the Devil’s Brigade. He was a life member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 49, Mahone Bay, where he was Secretary for a number of years. Prior to his retirement he worked as Assistant Manager of the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission in Mahone Bay. He loved spending time with his family and staying at his cottage on Mush a Mush Lake. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rosalie (Veinotte); son, Darryl (Cindy), Liverpool; son, Wayne, Halifax; daughter, Cheryl (Kevin) Feindel, Blockhouse; daughter, Debra (Chris) Michael, Colorado; 8 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; his brother, Harold, Chester Basin.
No visitation by request of the family.
Aubrey was a member of the Mahone Bay United Baptist Church where the funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 1, 2010 with Rev. Sherrolyn Riley officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Royal Canadian Legion Br. No. 49 or Mahone Bay United Baptist Church, both of Mahone Bay.
