Wallace H. "Wally" Smicer
Wallace Herbert "Wally" Smicer,of Maitland, Lunenburg County, passed away at Queen’s Manor, Liverpool on December 1, 2011.

Born in Hebb’s Cross on May 17, 1934, he was the son of the late Herbert and Beulah (Barry) Smicer.

He will be greatly missed for his music. He started playing for dances when a teenager and over the years has played at many dances, weddings, variety shows, nursing homes and various other gatherings. He loved to travel and after retirement, travelled to many bluegrass festivals. He was a life time member of the Nova Scotia Bluegrass and Old Time Music Society. He retired from the Nova Scotia Power Corporation where he worked as a meter reader for 30 years.

He leaves to mourn, his wife of 56 years, Alice (Whynot) Smicer; sons, David (Deb), Doha, Qatar; Stephen (Stacey), Lower Sackville; daughter, Debbie (Jeff) Beck, Newburne; seven grandchildren, Jonathan, Joshua, Kristy and Nicholas Beck; Jacob, Kaleb and Sonya Smicer; one great-grandchild, Alexander Beck; sister, Marion (Whidden) Ernst, Parkstone Enhanced Care, Halifax; many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by twin sister, Norma (Emerson) Currie; sisters, Barbara (Francis) Langille, Marie Smicer, Frances Smicer.

Visiting hours will be held 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at Mahone Funeral Home, Mahone Bay. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at St. James’ Anglican Church, Mahone Bay, Rev. Ian M. Wissler officiating. Interment will be in Christ Church Cemetery, Maitland.

Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to any charity.

Many thanks given to Queen’s Manor, Liverpool for the excellent care while Wally resided there.
