Reginald Hugh "Reggie" Barkhouse
1942-2021
His lifetime career was a cook / chef where he worked several jobs starting with the Military (Army) and was stationed in Germany until his release in 1964. He then worked at Acadia University until 1969. Then he worked for the Bedford Institute of Oceanography where he sailed on one of her most important expeditions, The Hudson 70 expedition where they circumnavigated North and South America. He also worked at the Oak Island Inn and Marina until he joined the crew of the Chebucto with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. After leaving the Chebucto, he worked for CN Rail, Department of Engineering out of Moncton, NB. The job he was most proud of was when he joined the crew of The Bluenose II where is worked until he retired.
Reg was predeceased by his parents, Hugh and Sadie (Joudrey) Barkhouse; sisters, Vivian Swinamer, Western Shore; Gloria Moland, Martin’s Point and Hilda Matthews, Toronto.
He is survived by his son, Allen Barkhouse, Halifax; his granddaughter, Lori Teale and grandson, Arthur Teale; his brothers, Ray, Donnie, Ken, Jimmy and his sister, Irene Baker; also his companion, Dianne.
By his request, there will be no viewing or service. At a later date there will be a shoreside service to scatter his remains.
