Wilfred Lloyd Alton "Sonny" Heisler

1937-2024

Wilfred Lloyd Alton "Sonny" Heisler
It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our dad and brother. Wilfred “Sonny” Heisler of Mahone Bay, formerly of Indian Point, who passed away in his sleep on October 6, 2024.

Sonny was born on Rous Island and was the son of Lloyd and Jenny Heisler. He is survived by his brother, Garnet (Diane); sister, Frances Redmond; children, Shelley Meisner (Shenan), Roger Heisler (Christine Garber); niece, Barbara Heisler-Croft (Rick); nephew, Blain Heisler (Susan); grandchildren, Jessica Heisler (Brandon O’Leary), Daniel Heisler (Tonya Myra), Kassidy and Cayden Meisner.

Sonny was predeceased by his parents, Lloyd and Jenny; nephew, Blair Heisler; grandson, Andrew Heisler and infant great grand baby Heisler.

Sonny’s name is synonymous with dory racing. He raced here at home and internationally for over 25 years and won almost every race. He had an uncanny ability to maneuver a dory through the water. He will be recognized for this accomplishment in the upcoming Lunenburg County Heritage Sports Hall of Fame next month. When Sonny put down his oars, he picked up the hockey stick and was a goalie for several hockey teams around Lunenburg County. Sonny loved the Boston Bruins, a good dirty joke and singing, if he had a drink or two in him.

A visitation for Sonny will be held Thursday, October 10, 2024 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Mahone Funeral Home, 32 Parish St., Mahone Bay and where a celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, October 11, 2024.

A private family interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Dory Racing Association or a charity of your choice.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mahone Funeral Home, Mahone Bay where online messages of condolences and memorial donation notifications may be made by visiting: www.mahonefuneral.ca
