Madeline E. Lohnes


Madeline Estelle Lohnes (Ernst) , of Blockhouse, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2011 at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

She was born in Blockhouse on November 9, 1923 to the late LeRoy and Zilpha (Oickle) Ernst.

She worked two years for Canadian Pacific Railway in Montreal and one year in Halifax before marrying and starting a family. She helped run the family farm and later a general store in Blockhouse before retiring in 1986. She loved vigorous walks, gardening, card games and watching Blue Jays baseball. She was a lifetime member of St. James’ Anglican Church, Mahone Bay.

She is survived by a son, Ronald, Blockhouse; sisters, Lillian (Emery) Joudrey, Blockhouse; Verda (Leo) Conrad, Garden Lots, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Madeline was predeceased by her husband, Russell Wilbert Lohnes; son, Lloyd Howard Lohnes; sisters, Dolly (Albert) Creaser; Marie (Carl) Ernst; Gwendolyn (Lester) Aulenback; infant brother, Donald.

No visiting hours by request. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, November 12, 2011 at St. James’ Anglican Church, Mahone Bay, Rev. Ian M. Wissler officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lunenburg County S.P.C.A., Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or any other charity.

The family would like to thank the many organizations and individuals who helped Madeline during her illness. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and support staff of the third floor, surgical unit at South Shore Regional Hospital.
